DECEMBER 1971
A VERY HAPPY XMAS AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR MEMBERS.
“COZ I LOVE YOU”
Welcome to our Xmas Special. Firstly, congratulations to Slade for their first No.1 record. The boys have sent a special thank you to you, the fans, in their letters, and I would also like to add mine. We all feel the work and extreme effort was worthwhile.
As you may guess, I have been absolutely swamped with letters, telegrams and work since the big event, and have literally sat in a pile of letters, wondering where to start. So please, if you haven’t received an answer to your correspondence, be patient. It seems as though the fan club has grown to enormous proportions since I last wrote to you, I have had at least 500 applications to deal with, and am getting typist’s cramp!
A SPECIAL WELCOME TO ALL NEW MEMBERS FROM US ALL
As promised in your last newsletter, the boys have all written a little article to you - how they ever found the time I really don’t know; so I’ll hand you over to Noddy, Don, Jim and Dave:
NODDY:
Well fans, we’ve made it to NUMBER ONE AT LAST and thanks to you, all our fans. Thanks a lot from us all to you.
Wow, the TV we’ve done in the last month or so has been enormous. At least twice a week, not only in this country, but all over Europe. Since our No.1 record everybody wants us. We have also played all over the country and it’s been hard work, in fact I think irs about time we had a rest; maybe in the New Year. I’ll have to discuss it with the boys for I’m sure they are feeling the pace too.
During our travels abroad we took the boat to Holland. What a day I’ve never seen the sea so rough, the waves must have been all of 2Oft high, and they say this is calm compared to the Atlantic. Still Noddy, Jim and I played cards for over 14 hours (the short journey). We were feeling okay but poor old Dave was sick all the trip.
JIM:
On the 19th, 20th and 21st October, we were recording our live album at Command Studios. The turnout of fans was great Thanks to all. It’s a shame that some of you could not make it. Still, the album will be out soon.
DAVE:
If you have the Sun newspaper, you would have seen the new design for our LP sleeve. Sorry we could not include you in the contest but the Sun arranged it all and there was a time factor involved too, sorry.
Still, have a Happy Christmas and a boozy New Year, and look out for our LP “SLADE ALIVE”.
Well, that was rotten of them, they have covered most of the news. Now what shall I write to you about?
MOVING
Well, you’re not going to believe this, but I do think we are moving yet again. I haven’t got the address yet, but we’ll be moving in straight after Christmas. So, firstly, please try not to send too many letters in to me, and secondly, you will not be receiving a January newsletter, but a February/March bumper size.
ALBUM
The boys’ new album has still not been released, or even given a release date, but as soon as I know, you will, too. The main problem for this delay was TV commitments in Holland, Belgium and Germany, plus, of course, U.K., so the boys have not yet finalised the album. We hope it will be released early in the New Year.
GOODIES
Hope in the New Year to persuade the boys and Chas to sell you tee shirts and posters~ MORE OF THAT WHEN I’VE DONE SOME WHEELING AND DEALING WITH THEM.
BITS & PIECES
The boys will be taking Christmas Day off to see their parents etc.... As Slade have had no holiday this year they have promised themselves one in 1972 Also planned for the New Year is a definite trip to the U.S.A., which they haven’t had time for yet......The boys still have not found a house to live in wtiile playing in the South..... All vans and cars are apparently shipshape after the various incidents/accidents which occurred during September.
COMPETITION RESULTS
The first two entries I received were from Margaret Stefanowizt and Rob Lally.
The awards for the best two entries go to the following two persons, and beneath their names are their entries:
SLADE by SUSAN HOAD
The first time I saw them was on Disco 2
I turned on the TV for something to do,
I sat there and listened, I was truly amazed,
I was left feeling dazed.
Their appearance was stunning, so different, so fine,
It made hot and cold shivers run over my spine.
Their words were so fresh, meaningful and new
I wonder, just could it be true.
I thought music like this was a thing not yet born,
But it was here right now, sung by more than one form
To be precise, four forms in all,
All of them skilled, handsome and tall.
This group, I thought was well worth being made
The name of this group? Well, who else but SLADE.
THE SLADE by JACKIE SCHUBERT
I like the Slade because they made
‘GET DOWN AND GET WITH IT’, which was all the rage.
I’m going to Dagenham to see them play
Only to scream my head away.
A fan of theirs I’ve been
Even when VaI was fan club queen.
My favourite is Jim, he’s so sweet,
But I think the others are just as neat.
I listen to the radio every day
Hoping to hear those fabulous Slade play.
Their new record I think is a hit
Anyone who says different must be a nit.
That’s my poem of which I’m proud
Now I’m ready to shout aloud:
“UP WITH SLADE’~.
